Description
Abbey Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with a matching extension added in the late 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the front in grey brick, and features a steep slated roof. The house is two storeys high, has end chimneys, and a central entrance, following a two-cells plan. It is set back from the road and faces north. Originally, a row of cottages stood in front of it along the roadside. The design is symmetrical, with two windows on either side of the central door. The windows are almost flush triple casements with very small panes, a larger central light, louvred shutters, and cambered arches over the ground floor windows. The entrance features a six-panel fielded door and a renewed doorcase with fluted pilasters and a flat hood. The carefully matched extension enhances the overall appearance of the property, which is included for its group value.
