Description
Baker's Cottage is a former baker's shop that has been converted into a private house. It dates from the 17th century, with the upper floor and eastern part added in the 18th century, and has been altered in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is now cased in brick, which is painted or plastered to resemble ashlar. It has an old red tile roof and is a two-storey structure with two windows facing north. The central door has been changed to a window, with the entrance now located at the rear. On the west side of the front, there is a small 18th-century canted bay shop window, and an internal chimney is located on the west gable. The two western bays have a heavy timber frame with jowled posts, a cross-beam, and exposed joists in the west bay, indicating its origins as a 1½-storey 17th-century building. The eastern end is marked by mortices on the underside of a beam, which was formerly an end-girt across the eastern room. The windows are recessed sash windows with margin-lights. The building is included for its group value.
