Description
The Swan is an ale house and shop that has been converted into a private house. It features early 19th-century remodelling of an older, narrower building that incorporated the former rear outshut. The structure is made of red brick with some blue headers and has a slate pitched roof. It is a long, two-storey house with a cellar, facing north along the street, and includes a lean-to extension at the eastern end.
On the first floor, there are three flush box sash windows, each with 8/12 panes. The same style of windows flanks a six-panel flush-beaded door located about a third of the way from the west. There is a large internal chimney situated about a third from the east. The eastern part of the building has a blocked door and a shallow canted-bay shop window, which features panelled pilasters, a full entablature, and small panes, all resting on a brick base. The door surround to the ale house is adorned with panelled pilasters, a full entablature, and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets.
