Description
23 and 23A High Street is an 18th-century house made of chequered red and grey brick, with red brick dressings. It features a hipped tiled roof that is set behind a parapet and has a moulded brick cornice. The building stands three storeys high and has five sash windows with glazing bars, which are set in shallow reveals beneath flat arches. The central window on the first floor is a Venetian style, complete with a triple keystone, while the second floor has a semi-circular five-light window. The entrance consists of a central six-fielded panelled door with a fanlight in the reveal, framed by engaged Roman Ionic columns that support a modillioned open pediment. There are lower two-storey wings, with five windows on the left side and two on the right, both featuring parapets.
