Description
24A High Street is a building dating from the 16th or 17th century, which was refaced in the 19th century in a Tudor style. The front is made of stucco, with some exposed timber corbels and brackets on the right side above a recessed carriageway. It has an old tiled roof featuring a 19th-century gabled oriel dormer on the right, and a cement-rendered gable on the left side elevation. The building has two storeys and five segmental-headed sash windows with drip moulds. There is a round arch with a drip mould over the door. Notably, the large carved wooden gates of the carriageway, which are from the 15th century, are said to have been brought from Quickswood nearby, although the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments suggests they may have originated from the Hospital of Saint Mary Magdalen at Clothall. This building is part of a group that includes several other council buildings along High Street.
