Description

Pepper Court is a detached house that has been converted into flats. It dates from the 18th century, with some additions and alterations from the 19th century, and is slightly set back from the road. The building is constructed of brick with stucco dressing on the road and garden fronts. The northwest reveal features Flemish bond red brick with vitrified headers. It stands three storeys tall.

The exterior has five symmetrical bays on the left, with a central projecting 19th-century porch that includes panelled double doors and an arched fanlight. The central three bays project slightly. To the right of this, there is an additional bay with three-light sash windows on each floor. The brickwork on the right reveal is Flemish bond for the lower two storeys and stretcher bond above. The rear of the building has stucco render on the right three bays and bare brick in both Flemish and stretcher bond on the left. The right three bays create a symmetrical composition with a projection at ground floor level and triple windows on either side of a single light. An arched window is located at the centre of the first floor. Both main fronts feature an entablature at the top of the wall, and the sash windows have been replaced with UPVC units, though the window openings remain unchanged.

Inside, there is richly-moulded cornicing in the hallways and top landing, featuring a central rosette. The open-string staircase has shaped tread ends and stick balusters. One ground floor room includes an early 19th-century cornice, a marble fire surround, and a segment-headed sideboard recess.
