Description
The Church of St John the Baptist was originally part of an Augustinian Priory founded in the second half of the 12th century and later converted into a parish church after the Dissolution. The church features a 13th-century nave and aisles, a 16th-century west tower, and a 19th-century chancel along with the east end of the south aisle. The nave was re-roofed in the early 16th century. Inside, there are 15th-century carved stone figures of St Thomas Becket and the Madonna and Child, as well as a richly carved 15th-century wooden pulpit and lectern. The church also contains 18th and 19th-century wall monuments, including a carved monument from 1732 and a monument from 1834 featuring a marble open book. Additionally, there is a medieval octagonal font with dummy arcades located in the north aisle.
