Description

Number 1, including the attached shops on the right, is a house and three shops dating from the 17th century, which has been refaced and altered, with early 20th-century shop fronts. The house features stucco and weatherboard with a plain tile roof and a brick stack. It is two storeys high with three bays and a central rear wing. There is a single-storey shop addition with three by three bays, incorporating one and a half bays into the right bay of the house. The house has an early to mid-20th-century part-glazed door at the centre, and flush casement windows with glazing bars, including two sets of two transomed lights on the ground floor to the left of the door and four lights above, as well as two sets of two lights on the first floor to the right. A central ridge stack is present.

The shops are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with wooden shop fronts and a flat roof. They feature panelled pilasters on plinths that support a corniced frieze, with embossed panels over the pilasters and a blocking course. The shop doors have a 12-pane glazed section above a base panel. The right-hand shop has an entrance at the centre of the right return, with a decoratively-tiled pavement in front of the recessed door and a leaded overlight above. The windows have tessellated panels below and iron grilles above. The right gable of the house is weatherboarded. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
