Description

Royston Manor House is an early 18th-century building located on Melbourn Street. It features a combination of red stretchers and grey headers, topped with an old tiled roof. The structure has two storeys, basements, and attics, with a stone plinth and chamfered quoins, along with a first-floor band. The facade includes three box dormers and five sash windows set in flush frames, complete with moulded sills and flat arches. The entrance boasts a six-fielded panelled door topped with an oblong traceried fanlight, all framed by an architrave surround and a hood supported by carved consoles.

The back elevation is constructed of plum-coloured brick with red brick dressings, featuring a mansard roof with two box dormers behind a stone-coped parapet. Decorative elements include a plinth, a first-floor band, and a brick cornice with modillions, as well as a central pedimented projection. The window arrangement consists of two sets of four and two sash windows with glazing bars, all in reveals under flat arches. The central pair of first-floor windows is framed by a decorative surround with a sill on consoles, reeded Doric pilasters, and an entablature that projects forward over the pilasters. On the ground floor, there is a combined central window and half-glazed door, framed by Doric half columns beneath an entablature with a pediment, triglyphs, and guttae. To the right, there is a later lower recessed wing made of red brick, which has two sash windows.
