Description

Marycourt, dating from the early 18th century, is a two-storey building with an attic and cellar, featuring a symmetrical facade with five windows. It has a red tile roof with parapet verges and three flat-roofed dormers that contain casement windows. The building is adorned with a moulded wooden cornice that projects boldly on pairs of carved modillion brackets, which return on themselves at the ends set in from the corners.

The dark red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches, a first-floor band, stone cills, and a high plinth. The windows are sashes in exposed frames. The entrance boasts an elaborate tall doorcase with a shell hood on a broken cornice, supported by acanthus leaf brackets. Above the doorcase is a reeded panel, flanked by panelled Doric pilasters. The arched doorway features an ornamental fanlight, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door, accessed by five stone steps that curve outward and are supported by wrought iron rails.

The west gable displays infilled tall narrow windows and bands at the first and second floors, while there are two later gabled extensions at the rear. Adjacent to the west side is an entrance gateway, flanked by square brick piers with a plinth, topped with a stone cap and ball finial.
