Description

Frenchman's Cottage, also known as No 31 and No 33, is a building that dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is an old two-storey structure with a later front that has undergone very recent changes. The building features a red tile roof that is half-hipped, with a catslide at the rear. The walls are made of painted brick.

On the first floor, there are seven casement windows. The east side has a mid-19th century bow shop front, which includes the house door for No 31 on one side and a shop door that has been converted into a window on the other. This front displays cornice brackets, pilasters, and a central bracket. The doorcase for No 33 features a canopy supported by brackets, thin panelled pilasters, and a six-panelled door. On the west side, there is another old shop window, which is bow-shaped and supported on a bracket, with a square cornice above narrow pilasters. The remainder of the ground floor is filled with three modern sash windows. Inside, the building has large beams and joists.
