Description
Gable Cottage and Manisty Cottage, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries with early 19th-century additions, form two dwellings originally joined by a shop. The building began as a timber-framed hall with a two-storey cross-wing featuring gables to both the front and rear. Later additions were made in the 17th and 18th centuries, incorporating four gables, one of which is hipped.
The north-facing front, dating to the early 19th century, has two storeys and four windows. The exterior is finished with red tile roofing, painted brickwork, some red brickwork, and rendering to the rear. The west end retains timber-frame upper walling and a rear gable, with a stepped plinth. Upper windows are casements, while the ground-floor windows are sash windows set in exposed timber frames. A bow-shaped window, formerly a shop front, features a cornice supported by a modern bracket. Doorways are adorned with canopies on brackets, and the doorway to No. 21 has an architrave.
Internally, a substantial Tudor chimney includes a noteworthy fireplace on the first floor. An arched wooden doorway is present within the original screens passage.
