Description
Brownings Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with a southern extension added in the early 19th century and a porch from the 20th century on the west side. The cottage features a timber frame that is roughcast, while the southern end is plastered and finished to resemble ashlar stone. It has a steep old red tile roof, with a lower pitch at the southern end. The building stands tall at two storeys with attics and has a three-cell internal chimney plan, facing west, along with a lower two-storey single-cell extension to the south.
The west front is irregular, showcasing three two-light casement windows on both the first and ground floors. There is a large hipped porch at the southern end of the older part of the house, and an attic window is located between the purlin-ends of the roof at the southern gable of the higher section. Inside, a large internal chimney is positioned a third of the way from the southern end of the original house, featuring the stumps of three diagonally set square shafts that are connected under a later cap. Additionally, there is a small external chimney on the northern gable.
