Description
Troopers is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-17th century, featuring a lobby entrance plan. Originally built with two timber frame bays, it was extended by one bay on the right around 1980. The ground floor is constructed of red brick and flint, while the upper floor showcases exposed framing with red brick infill. The roof is covered with machine tiles, and there is a ridge chimney stack with both square and diagonal set shafts. The building stands two storeys tall with a continuous tall plinth.
The original gabled porch has a chamfered brick door arch. On the rear elevation, there is a staircase turret on the west side, which includes two original diamond-leaded windows. Modern leaded casements have been added throughout the building. Inside, the farmhouse features inglenook fireplaces on either side of the ground floor stack, chamfer-stopped floor beams, and a chamfered brick fireplace on the first floor. The wide-plank doors from the 17th century have moulded grooves. The extension bay incorporates framing from a 17th-century barn taken from Ware and mirrors the details of the original house.
