Description
Peach House at The Node Training Centre is a glasshouse built in 1854, as indicated by the date etched on a glass pane on the east side. It is attributed to the architect Joseph Paxton. The structure is long and narrow, measuring about 2 metres wide and 27 metres long. It features a semicircular barrel roof made of ribbed glass panes, divided into 18 bays, which are framed by cast iron arches. Each side elevation has 4-light panels per bay with wooden vertical glazing bars. The lower quarter of each bay includes a ventilator, all connected to a single iron opening mechanism that has a lever handle at each end. A similar mechanism operates the ventilators on the top of the roof. The glasshouse is still in use for growing peaches.
