Description

Nos 32 to 38 Sollershott East, including No 47 South View, are a group of four houses and a detached house built in 1911 by C M Crickmer. They are designed in a Tudor-bethan style and form an interesting angled corner at the junction of Sollershott East and South View. The buildings are two storeys high with a symmetrical facade featuring a central gabled gatehouse and large gabled bays at the corner. The roofs are tiled, with outer gables that sweep down to the first floor level. The ground floor is constructed of brick, while the first floor is rendered. The gatehouse has a brick gable with 'tumbling in' and is flanked by chimneys that are disguised as octagonal turrets. Above the gate, there is an oriel window. The facade is enhanced by projecting bays and turrets with hipped roofs, and it features mullioned casement windows with leaded lights and tile labels. The central gateway is round-arched. This group was regarded as one of the finest examples of Garden City domestic architecture at the time and was widely illustrated, particularly in C B Purdom's book 'The Garden City' published in 1913. No 47 South View has irregular fenestration, tiled roofs with brick stacks, a brick ground floor, and a rendered first floor, along with mullioned casement windows featuring leaded lights and tile labels.
