Description

Nell Gwynn Cottage, originally a pump house for Salisbury Hall, dates to the early 18th century and has been extended and altered in the 20th century. The building is principally red brick, with some timber framing. It has a hipped tiled roof and two storeys, arranged over five bays. Windows are timber casements with scattered glazing bars. A gabled timber porch with a brick base and nogging in the gable sits to the right of the central entrance. The eaves are dentilled brick. End stacks are located in the hips of the roof. The rear of the cottage faces the moat and features a mix of 20th-century casements with leaded lights, and some exposed timber studs. A 19th-century dairy is situated to the right and is linked by a 20th-century lean-to addition. A hipped, single-storey extension has been added to the left front. The ground floor interior retains exposed timbers.
