Description

Manor Lodge School is a large house that was originally a health resort and opened as a school in 1991. It dates from the 18th century but underwent significant alterations in the first half of the 19th century, with further extensions in the late 19th century and around 1900. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and features seven bays.

The central entrance is located in a projecting porch added around 1900, which has banded rustication, a pulvinated frieze, a modillioned cornice, and a parapet. The three central bays are flanked by giant pilasters. On the first floor, there is a keyed arch above a central Venetian window, with flanking glazing bar sashes that have bracketed floating cornices. The ground floor on the left has similar windows and two basement windows. There is a modillioned cornice, a parapet, and a scrolled panel at the center. The building has a mansard roof.

To the right of the entrance, there is a link from the porch that connects to a ballroom extension from around 1900, which projects forward and has a bowed front. The right return features a tripartite sash window and a keyed oculus. To the left, there is a late 19th-century extension of one bay, which is set back slightly.

At the rear, there is a full-height canted bay at the center that rises to a semi-octagonal mansard roof. The ground floor on the right has an iron verandah, and plat bands separate the storeys on the left and center. A rectangular bay projects to the right on the late 19th-century extension. The interior features are largely from the 19th century.
