Description

Two blocks, originally three houses and two houses, now serve as offices. They were built in 1852 and feature the name '1852 GRANSBY' in the porches. The buildings are constructed of knapped flint with brick dressings and have decorative tiled roofs. The symmetrical front has two storeys and four windows. A central entrance and flanking windows project forward under two gables. The porch has a four-centred arched gauged brick head with a chamfered surround and a diagonally set brick course below the gable. The windows are three-light cast iron casements with Gothic glazing, slightly cambered heads, and drip moulds. There are diagonally set brick courses at the eaves and in the gables. The outer bays are similar, with the ground floor on the right featuring a 20th-century shopfront and entrance. The buildings have four stacks with tall, paired, diagonally set shafts. The right return faces Station Approach and has a central entrance porch that is similar but broader, with flanking windows like those at the front. There are two small gables with decorative brickwork, and an additional bay set back to the right. The left gable end also has decorative brickwork, with an entrance towards the rear. A link connects to No. 12 Station Approach. Originally, the buildings formed a symmetrical pair with similar details. The original ground floor is now below road level, but new raised ground floor openings have been inserted, and the original porch has been blocked. An additional entrance is located on the right front with a steeply pitched roof. The interior has not been inspected. This listing includes Nos. 11 and 12 Station Approach.
