Description

The former Cat and Fiddle Public House is an early 18th-century house, which operated as a public house from 1878. It was extended and altered in the early 19th century (1814-18) and in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with some timber framing, and is rendered. It has a machine tiled hipped roof. Originally a two-window front with a central entrance and a bracketed hood, the house has two storeys. The windows are eight-pane sashes in moulded surrounds. Features include a plinth and a band between the storeys. A left-end stack has offsets. An early 19th-century extension, slightly set back, was added to the right, with sixteen-pane sashes in reveals, and a stack between the original block and the extension on the front pitch. A lean-to addition exists to the left, and a single-storey extension on the right. Inside, timber framing with brick nogging is visible at first-floor level on the original left-end wall. A 18th-century brick fireplace is located to the left.
