Description

The War Memorial in Aldenham, Radlett, was constructed around 1919 and is made of Portland stone. It features a cross with a ball finial atop a plain and elongated four-sided capital. The main face of the capital is inscribed with the words 'THE MEN OF RADLETT WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY', while the years '1914' and '1918' are displayed on the adjacent faces, leaving the fourth face blank. The shaft is four-sided and chamfered at both the top and bottom.

The memorial stands on an octagonal plinth that is divided into two parts and stepped. The upper part of the plinth is engraved with the names of the war dead on alternating faces, while the lower part features a quote from Henry V: 'AWAKE REMEMBRANCE OF THESE VALIANT DEAD', along with additional names on alternating faces. The base consists of three tiers of eight-sided steps.
