Description
The entrance gateway, gates, and attached boundary walls at Number 35 were built around 1920 for Herbert Washington Broome. They are constructed from red brick and plain tile, featuring moulded cappings. The low boundary walls are made of dark red brick laid in a rat-trap bond and topped with clay saddle-back copings. The intermediate and corner piers have alternating bands of brick and tile, rising above the wall height and ending in slightly corbelled heads with curved caps. The entrance gateway is located in the north-western part of the boundary wall, featuring a wide semi-circular archway that rises from low banded piers. The arch soffit is made of brick laid on edge, with a wide band of zig-zag patterned tilework set between tile on edge margins above it. Additional plain banding completes the arch detail. The low timber gates have ramped top rails, decorated hanging straps, and hanging posts with moulded tops. This structure is listed for its group value with 'Avalon'.
