Description

This is a house, originally built in the late 15th or early 16th century, and now divided into three dwellings. It was floored, heated, and extended in the 17th century and had its front façade altered in the 18th century. The construction is timber frame, with a stuccoed brick front, and it has a steeply pitched roof covered with old tiles. The building began as a single-ended hall house, comprising a two-bay hall with a solar (a private living space) and a service wing to the left.

The building is two storeys high. The ground floor has three doorways, and three 19th-century sash windows with cambered heads set within reveals. A horizontal sliding sash window appearing as part of the adjacent property, number 10, is situated to the left of the entrance to number 12. The first floor has similar windows. A plinth is visible at the front of number 12, and there is 20th-century pargeting (decorative rendering) on the exterior. The building is finished with a simple eaves cornice. A large chimney stack sits on the ridge of the roof, between the two hall bays, while an external stack to the left side has been rebuilt. At the rear of number 12 is a 17th-century cross-wing extension, along with 19th-century lean-to additions.

Inside, the building features a crown post roof with arched braces connecting jowled posts to cambered tie beams. The ground floor also has chamfered binding beams.
