Description
No. 5 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring two windows on the front facade. The entrance is located to the right and has a plain hood above it. The ground floor has a 16-pane sash window set in a reveal with a gauged brick flat arched head, while the first floor has two 12-pane sash windows. The building has a plinth and close eaves under a gambrel roof.
Around 1900, a long dormer was added by Miss E. Gulland RE for use as an artist's studio. There are multiple stacks on the left end of the building, and the right return is cement rendered. At the rear right, there is a full-height hipped wing that features a tall staircase sash and a moulded timber eaves cornice. The rear left has a lower wing with a broader hip and a first-floor sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
