Description
Number 1 Elm Cottages is a house built in 1825 as part of the Aldenham School for the Brewer's Company. The building is constructed from stock brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high and features three windows. The central entrance is set in a recess and has an ogee moulded surround. On either side of the entrance are small sash windows with ogee moulded block surrounds. On the first floor, there are two light octagonal pane casements with moulded mullions and similar surrounds. A triangular cornice band runs along the boxed eaves, and there is a stack at the right end of the building. A repositioned stone above the door indicates that the school was built by the Brewer's Company in 1825. The interior has not been inspected.
