Description

The Old Rest is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. It is timber-framed, with some plastered and weatherboarded sections. The steeply pitched roof is covered in slate and tile. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. The gable end faces the road, featuring casement windows. An entrance is situated in a lean-to addition on the right front and return, which was formerly a shop. The left return features an external stack with offsets, and a weatherboarded first floor. A rear extension includes a 20th-century porch for entrance. The interior reveals chamfered bearers on the ground floor and jowled posts with arched braces to cambered tie beams on the first floor.
