Description

Old Bakery Cottage is a 17th century house, likely dating from the early to mid-1600s. It is constructed with a timber frame and is covered in roughcast render. The roof is tiled, and the house has three bays arranged over two storeys. The entrance is on the left side, and the windows are mostly 20th century casements. An axial ridge stack is located to the right of the centre of the building. The left return side displays exposed timber framing, featuring queen struts to the collars, clasping the purlins and interrupting the tie beam. Weatherboarding is present in the gables. A 19th century stack has been added to the rear of the building. The interior has not been inspected. The building is documented in the Hertfordshire Archaeology typescript, volume 6, page 78.
