Description

A house dating from the early 16th century, with extensions and new floors added in the early 17th century, and later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is timber-framed, with parts now brick-cased, plastered, and weatherboarded, and has tiled roofs. It originally comprised a two-bay open hall, to which a three-bay wing was added to the rear, forming a ‘T’ shape.

The front of the house has two storeys and features 20th-century casement windows, with exposed posts. The left-hand gable end has a 20th-century casement window in brick, and a later jetty to the weatherboarding. The right-hand gable end has an 18th-century external stack within a ground-floor lean-to addition. The ridge of the 17th-century wing is slightly higher than that of the original hall. The left return has entrances to the right and left, with two ground-floor, two-light casements within brickwork. The first floor is weatherboarded and has two horizontal sliding sash windows. A ridge stack is located between the two bays nearest the hall, with another stack added at the left end.

At the rear of the 17th-century wing, exposed posts are visible on the first floor, alongside two glazing bar casement windows. Lean-to brick additions are present at the rear gable end and at the rear of the 17th-century wing, with slate and tile roofs.

The interior features stop-chamfered ground floor binding beams. The hall has jowled posts with arched braces to cambered tie beams, a king strut to the cambered collar beam, and curved wind braces.
