Description
Hunsdon Stores is a group of four houses, now three, dating from the 17th century, with the southern half likely being older. The buildings are timber-framed and covered in white weatherboarding over a red brick plinth. They feature a steep old red tile roof that is gabled at the north end and half-hipped at the south. Originally, there were four cottages and a double-width shop, but they have since been converted into three properties.
Nos. 73 and 75 at the south end appear to have started as a three-unit central chimney house, with a two-storey parlour at the south end and an inserted floor above, which is lit by two dormers. The northern part seems to be a later addition between gable chimneys. The front has a total of seven windows, including a shallow square bay window on the left and six-panelled doors. The left-hand house features a low flush box sash window with 12 small panes under the eaves. The shop at the northern end has a central half-glazed door accessed by two steps, adorned with a moulded architrave and cornice, and is flanked by three 3-paned shop windows from the 19th century. There are also three 2-light casement dormer windows. This picturesque 17th-century timber-framed and weatherboarded range is an important feature in the diverse group of buildings in this part of the Conservation Area.
