Description

The Old Post Cottage is a house, likely dating from the 17th century, although modified in the early 19th century. The original timber frame was weatherboarded, but a red brick facade and north end were added during the early 19th century. It has an old red tile hipped roof. The house follows a 3-unit plan, featuring a rear lateral chimney, an external gable chimney at the north end, and a door located one-third from the north side. It is a small, two-story house with three windows, one room deep. A large, trellised, gabled porch is positioned off-centre. The lower windows have segmental arches, and the recessed sash windows have smaller upper sashes; the windows from left to right are 4, 5 and 3 panes wide respectively. The house represents an historic timber-framed structure, somewhat disguised by its early 19th-century brickwork. It is considered a picturesque feature within the village Conservation Area, particularly amongst the buildings around the village pump.
