Description

The Crown Public House, located on the corner of Acorn Street in Hunsdon village, is a building that dates from the 18th century or early 19th century, as indicated by its presence on the Tithe Map of 1842. Originally a short terrace of three brick and slate houses, it is now a public house that was combined and opened in the 1920s. The structure features a continuous five-bay lean-to wooden verandah and has a timber-framed and weatherboarded rear wall.

The façade is colourwashed and consists of three windows arranged vertically above one another, with paired doors on the left side. Each house has end chimneys that are set away from the entrance, while the right-hand pair shares a square stack. All openings are topped with segmental brick arches, and there is a dentilled eaves course. The windows have been renewed with small panes, and the doors are vertically moulded with a small glazed rectangle. At the rear, there is a weatherboarded addition.

This building is notable for retaining many original features despite its conversion into a public house. It is situated on a bank at a prominent corner, directly opposite the Village Hall, and is located within the village Conservation Area. The property is included for its group value.
