Description
Hunsdon War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled on 21 November 1921, with a later plaque commemorating those who fell in the Second World War. It is made of granite and stands on a paved base. The memorial features a rough hewn granite Celtic wheel-head cross, which includes smooth polished areas that display the inscriptions.
On the north face of the shaft, the dedication reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HUNSDON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919." The names of the 18 men who fell in the First World War are inscribed on the north face of the plinth.
The same dedication is repeated on the south face of the shaft: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HUNSDON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1939 – 1945." The names of the seven men who fell in the Second World War are set into the plinth on the south face.
