Description

This is an 18th and 19th century workshop, now used as a residence, located on the east side of High Street in Hunsdon village. The building is long and two storeys high, with weatherboard cladding, a tarred brick plinth, and a low-pitched slate roof that continues the appearance of the adjacent building at number 18. A passageway through the north end provides access to the rear of number 22, and is closed by a decorative wrought iron gate with an arched top. A blocked carriageway, located roughly in the middle of the building, once gave access to the garden of number 16. There are two sets of paired wooden casement windows on the first floor, each window having two lights. Historically, this range of buildings served as workshops for various businesses associated with number 16, including a blacksmith, coachmaker, builder, and an inn. The building makes a key contribution to the visual character of the Conservation Area and connects numbers 22 and 18. It is listed for its group value.
