Description
This weight restriction plaque, dating from around 1908, is located approximately 5 meters east of a bridge on the south side of the New River in Ware Town. It is a lozenge-shaped cast-iron plaque that is bolted to a timber post, which is attached to railings north of Hertford Road. The plaque serves as a warning of weight limits on the adjacent bridge. It features raised lettering indicating that it was erected by the Metropolitan Water Board to inform drivers of weight limits established under the Motor Car Acts of 1896 and 1908, specifying a maximum registered axle weight of three tons or aggregate axle weights of five tons.
