Lodgings range, now a barn. C16, altered to a barn in C18. Timberframed and weatherboarded with a steep old red tile gabled roof. Double doors on E side. A tall unaisled barn facing E. ormerly an important 2 storeys domestic building approximately 20 x 8 metres. Former 8-bay structure altered by creating 2 middle wider bays from 4, leaving 1 original bay at S end and 3 at N end. Queen post trusses with 2 butt purlins in line with each slope. Deep paired arched wind braces to lower purlin. Squared, chamfered, jowled posts of great size, with deep arched braces to tie beams. Remains of serpentine tension bracing in walls and rebated studs for upper windows. Tie beams have mortices for an original ceiling/attic floor. ..all posts have paired vertical mortices and cut back ledge for upper floor beams, and mortice for a brace under. The building was presumably part of Hunsdon Lodge, a royal hunting lodge, recorded in the Tudor Period (HLHS (1979) 34). Remains of an early 2 storeys timberframed house of exceptional size and quality. Part of the picturesque group of tarred farm buildings at Hunsdon Lodge Farm.
