Description

This is a pair of cottages with a pump, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier. Both have timber framing, although they were significantly altered in the mid-to-late 19th century. The southern block (numbers 4-6) is possibly of 16th-century origin and features a cross wing next to a large, 17th-century square chimney stack. It has a three-window front with 8/8 sash windows. The south-facing elevation is weatherboarded and includes a 6/6 sash window on the ground floor along with leaded casement windows. The northern block (numbers 7 and Tudor Cottage) has a taller, half-hipped roof and plain 2-, 3- and 4-light casement windows. A weatherboarded rear extension is present. A cast iron pump stands in the rear garden of number 4, while number 7 has a weatherboarded, single-storey rear extension with a tall red brick chimney, which likely housed a baker’s oven.
