Description
The war memorial, located 9 meters north of St Peter's Church in Buntingford, is a cross dating from around 1919. It is made of Portland stone and features a tall, tapering octagonal pillar that stands on a moulded base. This base is raised on an inscribed square block, which is worked to an octagonal shape at the top and elevated on three steps. At the top of the pillar is a small octagonal-shafted tapered armed cross, which has expanded finials on its arms. The capital of the pillar is intricately carved with leaf scrolls and acorns. There is a sunk flower ornament around the neck of the pillar and trefoil panels at the bottom. Each face of the square base block has an ornamental motif above the inscription.
