Description

This milestone, located against the east wall of St Peter's Church, dates from around 1742 and was created for the Wadesmill Turnpike Trust. It is made of square Portland Stone, measuring approximately 400 mm by 400 mm and standing 600 mm high. The pillar is broken at mid-height and has been repaired. There are holes on the east face where an iron plate was fixed around 1804, although this plate is now missing. The Ordnance Survey records the inscription as 'Royston 7: Ware 10'.
