Description
The Crown Public House is a mid-19th century public house located on the west side of High Street in Buntingford. It is constructed of red brick and features a steep red tiled roof with ornamental cresting. The building is low, with two storeys and a cellar, and it faces east onto the market place.
The façade has a chamfered plinth and includes two windows on each floor, along with a central entrance. The overhanging eaves have a plastered soffit. The design is symmetrical, showcasing 3-light casement windows on the first floor with cambered arches, and similar, deeper ground floor windows that include transoms.
An elaborate wooden Jacobean style gabled porch enhances the entrance, featuring square fluted pillars, a bargeboard, a finial, curved braces, and a roof that is banded with both plain and decorative tiles. The entrance has half-glazed panelled double doors. The interior of the pub has seen little alteration and retains its counter and barback. The building is included for its group value.
