Description

This is a house, now divided into two separate dwellings, built in the later 17th century. An outshut was added to the rear in the 18th century, and the front facade was re-faced with brick in the late 19th century. The building is long, roughly L-shaped, and faces west, with a two-storey rear outshut and a rear wing to the northeast. The rear of the building is timber-framed with roughcast over a weatherboarded plinth, and has weatherboarding on the south gable. The front is faced with white brick, and the roof is covered with old red tiles. A large red brick chimney is located centrally on the south half of the building, and a smaller rear chimney is on the north side, where it joins the wing. The formal brick front is four windows wide, with projecting boxed eaves. The wider windows, which have gauged arches, flank the front door. A small, pilastered shopfront is at the right-hand end of the front. The windows are recessed sash windows with six-over-six panes. The front door is a six-panel flush beaded door with a rectangular fanlight. To the side of the front door is a three-light window with a brick stallriser and fascia, alongside a margin-light half-glazed shop door. At the rear, the windows are flush box sash windows with moulded surrounds and six-over-six panes. Some of the front windows of number 2A, on the north side, have been altered to have two-over-two panes.
