Description
This is a terrace of cottages located on Hertingfordbury Road. The core of the buildings dates to the 17th century, with a 19th-century extension and 20th-century alterations. The cottages are primarily timber-framed and clad in brown stock brick laid in a Flemish bond, with colourwashed brickwork on number 246. The roofs are tiled, with a hipped section at the east end and over number 246. A T-plan brick chimney stack with banding and overhanging courses serves numbers 246 and 248.
The cottages are a mix of single-storey and attic and two-storey designs. The ground floor has three recessed windows with small panes, along with two 20th-century bow windows. A door is positioned to the left of the facade, with further doors to numbers 248 and 250 located beneath a lean-to timber porch with trellis sides. A door to number 246 is situated on the right, sheltered by a lean-to porch with a tiled roof, alongside 2-light timber casement windows on the ground and first floors. The roof is punctuated by five gabled dormers.
The interior was not inspected during the listing process. The group value of the terrace lies in its historic character and contribution to the streetscape.
