Description

The houses at 5 and 7 St Mary’s Street date from the early 19th century, with later 19th-century alterations. They are built of yellow stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with an old tiled roof concealed behind a parapet at the front. The parapet is topped with a brick band and a sawtooth band cornice, and features a central multi-flue chimneystack. The front of the building has two bays and a side entry, designed as semi-detached houses.

The left side of the building features a two-storey, late 19th-century canted bay window with three sash windows. These windows have plain glazing with a single glazing bar in the wider central sash, a stuccoed spandrel, a brick base and a hipped tiled roof. The first floor to the right has a mullion and transom wood casement window, recessed under a rubbed brick flat arch; the ground floor below has a 12-pane sash window. The south-facing flank of number 7 faces the garden. On this elevation are a two-light, small-paned attic casement, a two-light casement at first floor level, and two canted late 19th-century bay windows with hipped tiled roofs, located to the left and right. A central wooden porch with canted glazed side lights and colonnettes supporting a central lancet arch is also present. A long, two- and single-storey outshut is located to the right. The interior was not inspected.
