Description
The barn at Little Meadow is a 17th-century structure located in Great Hormead. It features a timber frame set on a tarred offset brick plinth, with a roughcast exterior and a dark weatherboarded apron. The barn has a steep half-hipped roof that is currently covered in corrugated iron, although it was originally thatched. This tall barn has five bays and faces west, with its south gable being a notable feature in the street. There is a central bay rear outshot opposite the central double doors. The barn includes jowled posts and long curved braces supporting the tie-beams, along with a clasped-purlin roof that has thin rafters designed for thatch. Additionally, there is a mid-height rail staggered with straight tension braces both above and below, and the wall plates are connected with face-halved bladed scarf joints.
