Description

The milepost at the west corner with Gypsy Lane is a 19th-century structure made of painted cast iron. It has a round head and is V-shaped in plan with a hollow back. The upper part features a sloping offset below a semi-circular chamfered top, which has raised lettering that reads 'AMWELL PARISH' in a sunk panel. The lower faces of the milepost have V-topped sunk panels indicating distances of 'WARE 2' and 'LONDON 19'. It was likely erected by the Cheshunt Turnpike Trust.
