Description

The barn, now a workshop, dates to the 16th century. It is timber-framed with weatherboard cladding on a red brick sill wall, and has a gabled roof covered in old red tiles. The barn has four bays facing east. A doorway has been inserted into the second bay from the south. The structure incorporates heavy, jowled bay posts and long, curved braces supporting heavy, cambered tie beams. The stud wallframe is substantial, with rails tenoned in line. The roof is a clasped purlin design, featuring one purlin and straight wind braces. Several heavy, flat-laid rafters remain. Later additions include angled queen-struts with strainer plates between the collar of each truss. Straight-tension braces are visible in the corners to the sill plate. A lean-to addition exists at the rear (west), and an extension to the south, neither of which are considered of special architectural or historical interest.
