Description
The West Barn at Latchford Farm, located 20 meters to the southwest of the house, is a barn dating from the 16th century, with its roof rebuilt in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is dark weatherboarded, resting on a low brick sill, and has a low-pitched corrugated iron roof. The barn has three bays and faces east, with central double doors leading to the yard and a lean-to outshut on the west side. The barn displays an unusual 16th-century wall framing with a low eaves height, heavy jowled posts, and long curved braces supporting cambered tie-beams. It also includes cranked tension braces in the walls, alternating light and heavy studs, and a groove under the wallplate for wattle infill. The roof structure is a queen-strut design with one purlin on each slope.
