Description

Fairview Cottage is a house, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier, with a front wing probably added in the early 18th century. The house has a timber frame covered with stucco, with roughcast render, weatherboarded sections, and a rear wall. It has steep roofs covered in old red tiles. The original plan was a 3-cell arrangement with a central chimney, and a later 2-storey wing was added to the northeast, featuring its own external north chimney for a ground-floor fireplace. A later lean-to extension has been added to the rear. The house was likely originally built with a lobby-entry, which was later enclosed within the front wing. A lean-to porch is located in the angle of the wings. The east front features a large square red brick chimney, positioned two-thirds of the way from the north end, and a later small external gable chimney at the south end. It has two windows on each floor of the main house, two windows on the upper floor of the gabled wing, and one window on the ground floor of the wing. The windows are 2-light flush casements with leaded lattice glazing. The interior is said to contain exposed timbering and an open fireplace.
