Description

This is a house located at 78 High Street, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a northeast wing added in the early 18th century. It features a timber frame on a stucco sill, roughcast walls, and steep old red tile roofs. The house is one and a half storeys tall and has a three-cell layout with a central chimney. The entrance is now located in the east gable end facing the road.

The northeast extension has a gable chimney that projects slightly. The large central chimney has an oven off the middle room, located a third of the way from the east end, and features tall conjoined square shafts above the roof. There is also a small modern external chimney on the south wall.

The east front has a gable on the left side with a two-light top-hung leaded casement window above a continuous dripboard at the eaves level. There is a lean-to timber open porch leading to a renewed oak plank door. To the right, there is a gabled dormer at the eaves with a similar two-light flush casement window below. On the south side, there is another gabled dormer over the middle room, with three small windows on the ground floor. A tiled lean-to is set back at the west end. The structure has a three-bay design with a side purlin roof, and the northeast extension has a similar roof. Overall, this house is a picturesque example of village architecture.
