Description
Cobblers is a house located on the east side of High Street in Much Hadham village. It dates back to the earlier 16th century and was altered in the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame and was originally part of an inn, with a coach entrance that has exposed joists at the southern end. The exterior is roughcast with an old tile roof and the house has two storeys.
The door towards the north is adorned with reeding and a paterae surround, topped with a flat bracketed hood. It is flanked on both sides by 8/8 sash windows. On the first floor, there are three casements and one horizontal sash, all with six over six panes. A wooden band runs between the floors. Inside, there is a rear staircase that includes a 17th-century newel post. Additionally, there is a Regency cast iron door knocker featuring a lion head and a banded wreath.
