Description
Woodham House is a house with a complex history, dating back to the 16th or early 17th century. It was significantly remodelled and centralised in the early 18th century and then given a new facade in the late 19th century. The house is constructed of painted brick and plaster, with an old tile roof and tall square stacks.
The symmetrical front of the house is two and a half storeys high, featuring projecting gable ends. Each gable end has two sash windows on the ground floor, one 3-light casement window on the first floor, and bargeboards carved with wavy lines. A central gabled dormer window is also present. The front door is adorned with carved consoles and a flat hood, which are part of an entablature that extends across the middle of the elevation, with the architrave continuing on the end bays.
The rear elevation includes a 17th-century pyramid roof stair turret towards the north. A two-and-a-half storey extension constructed of grey brick was added around 1890 on the south side.
The interior of Woodham House is notable for its early 18th-century staircase, which has triplets of balusters on each step and scrolls on the sides. Contemporary panelling is found in the hall and a front room.
